We need your Help to fill a Container to Send to Honduras

As many of you know, the situation in Honduras is very unstable and international help to Honduras by the U.S. and other nations have been suspended. It is getting more difficult for us to purchase many things we need for our ministry and the christian schools in Honduras so we have decided to send down a large container for our mission and we need your help.

Below you will see a list of products that we are hoping to ship down. If you have any of these products in your home or office that you no longer use and you would like to donate them to the mission in Honduras, we would truly appreciate it. All we ask is that anything donated be in working condition. We do not have the funds to fix anything that is broken.

All items will distributed to our churches, schools, feeding centers and the needy people of Honduras.

Date of Shipping (October 30th)

Please ship all donations to:

107 Autumn Run Place
Villa Rica, Ga 30180

We will be storing everything at this address and then sorting everything into categories. Everything will be boxed up to fill the container. Hopefully we will have so many donations that we will need more than one container.

If you have a large amount of items that you would like to give, please call us at 678-654-6391 so we can discuss the best way to get the items to us. A touching Story

One day, when I was a freshman in high school,

I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school.

His name was Kyle.

It looked like he was carrying all of his books.

I thought to myself, 'Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday?

He must really be a nerd.'

I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.

As I was walking,

They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt.
!
His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him.

He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes.

My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye.

As I handed him his glasses, I said, 'Those guys are jerks. They really should get a life.'
He looked at me and said, 'Hey thanks!'

There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.

I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before.

He said he had gone to private school before now.

I would have never hung out with a private school kid before.

We talked all the way home, and I carried some of his books..... He turned out to be a pretty cool kid. I asked him if he wanted to play a little football with my friends

He said yes.

We hung out all weekend and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him, and my friends thought the same of him.

Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again.

I stopped him and said, 'Boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday!
'He just laughed and handed me half the books.

Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends..

When we were seniors we began to think about college....
Kyle decided on Georgetown and I was going to Duke.
I k new that we would always be friends, that the miles would never be a problem.

He was going to be a doctor and I was going for business on a football scholarship.

Kyle was valedictorian of our class. I teased him all the time about being a nerd.

He had to prepare a speech for graduation. I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak

Graduation day, I saw Kyle. He looked great. He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school.. He filled out and actually looked good in glasses.
He had more dates than I had and all the girls loved him. Boy, sometimes I was jealous! Today was one of those days.

I could see that he was nervous about his speech. So, I smacked him on the back and said, 'Hey, big guy, you'll be great!'

He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled.

'Thanks,' he said.

As he started his! Speech, he cleared his throat, and began:
'Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach...but mostly your friends...

I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. I am going to tell you a story.'

I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the
Story of the first day we met. He had planned to kill himself over the weekend. He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home. He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile.

'Thankfully, I was saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable.'

I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment. I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile.

Not until that moment did I realize it's depth.

Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one small gesture you can change a person's life. For better or for worse.

God puts us all in each others lives to impact one another in some way.

Look for God in others.

Spanish Lyrics to Praise you in the Storm

I have had several request for the spanish lyrics to the song by Casting Crowns "Praise you in the Storm". Here are the lyrics as sung by the Samaritan Revival Group.

En la Tormenta Alabare
Praise you in the Storm

Seguro estaba yo
Dios extendería su mano
A secar mis lágrimas
Y salvar este día
Y una vez más
Yo digo Amen
Pero aun llueve

Los truenos fuertes son
Apenas oigo decir por la lluvia
Contigo estoy
Y al ver tu compasión
Mis manos alzo y alabo al Dios q da
Y quita

Coro

En la tormenta yo
Levantare mis manos
Porque tú eres quien eres
No importa adonde este
Todo lo que he llorado
Lo tiene en tus manos
Nunca me dejaras
Si quebrantado estoy
En la tormenta, Alabare

Recuerdo cuando
El viento me hizo tropezar
Mi llanto escuchaste
Me levantaste una vez mas
Débil estaba yo
Como puedo seguir
Si no te encuentro

Los truenos fuertes son
Apenas oigo decir por la lluvia
Contigo estoy
Y al ver tu compasión
Mis manos alzo y alabo al Dios q da
Y quita
En la tormenta yo
Levantare mis manos

Why Support Samaritan Revival

For sometime, I have been asking people to support the Samaritan Revival ministry. I have come to realize that I have probably not really explained why anyone should sacrifice their hard earned dollars to help our ministry. I hope to do this in just a few paragraphs even though I can tell you that you may not have the same calling as we do but we hope you can see the calling that God has placed on our lives.

To be totally honest, when I started the Samaritan Revival ministry, the only purpose was to use the group in evangelism in Central America. I figured that we would go to different churches that are part of the Good Samaritan Baptist Mission in Central America and hold revivals, youth meetings, etc. We did that and God really blessed. We saw many souls come to Christ. Having no financial support was really difficult because everything we did put a burden on our mission. Good Samaritan Mission was paying our expenses which included gas, food, lodging, etc. when we traveled. What many people do not know is that 90 percent of all the funds that are given to the mission is designated so even though the group was a blessing, it was also a financial burden.

Once the Lord opened the door to come to the states to help raise funds for the mission and especially the Opportunity of a Lifetime program, we started seeing many results as people started responding by sponsoring children. Over 400 families have sponsored children because of the ministry of the Samaritan Revival group. This is a tremendous blessing because these children now get to eat a good meal everyday, go to school, and best of all, they get to learn about the love of Jesus and how He died on the cross for them. God showed us that Samaritan Revival can be used for two purposes. One, to raise support for the mission work and for poor needy children, and second, to spread the Word of God through evangelism in Central America and anywhere else that the Lord opens doors.

Here has been our problem. Yes, God has blessed us in a great way by the results of funds being raised for the Opportunity of a Lifetime program. Yes, God has blessed in a great way by opening doors to new churches for the Good Samaritan Mission by using the Samaritan Revival group as a tool but we are still a financial burden for the mission because of the lack of support that we have been able to raise for the calling that God has given us.

Let me just say this, the mission is not complaining, they are very appreciative of the sacrifice of our group and especially the guys who leave their families for months at a time to travel thousands of miles. They love this work and this ministry and they are willing to sacrifice but we also need support to carry on with what God has called us to do. Now you know why I send out so many emails promoting the sales of Cd's and other things because I am only trying to raise funds so that we can pull our own weight.

Our desire is to be able to raise funds for the Good Samaritan Baptist Mission (which by the way, we are the only ones doing this right now) and also have enough support to work at least six months a year in evangelism in Central America without having to ask for funds from the mission which they do not have. Good Samaritan Baptist Mission already supports 40 feeding centers, 9 radio stations, hundreds of national pastors, 6 christian schools and the Good Samaritan Bible School. Samaritan Revival wants to be a blessing by continuing to help these ministries grow without being any type of financial burden.

We are not separate from the mission, we are a ministry of the Good Samaritan Mission but each ministry has to raise their own support for the well being of the work. There is so much that we can do but we need monthly support to be able to do it. The ministries of the Good Samaritan Mission needs us to raise support in the states for them but we need the finances to pay the expenses. There are many towns and villages in Honduras and Nicaragua that need the Gospel preached through large evangelistic campaigns but without support, it is very hard to accomplish.

I know that many of you already support one of the ministries of the Good Samaritan Baptist Mission and we thank you for that from the bottom of our heart. One person can only do so much but by partnering with us financially, as we travel from church to church, you will help us open the eyes of many people who have never heard of about our mission work. With your help, we can raise much needed support for all the different ministries in Central America.

Whether you are able to give FIVE DOLLARS A MONTH or ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS A MONTH, any amount will help. If you sponsor a child, you could give an extra 3 or 5 dollars a month toward the Samaritan Revival group. If you are a Pastor of a Church, you can ask your church to support our ministry monthly. If you love the Good Samaritan Baptist Mission, by helping us, you will be helping the mission.

If this sounds like a cry for help, it is. The Bible says in Luke 11:9 "And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you."

On June 28th, we start visiting churches once again for two months. We will be in around 35 churches representing the mission work. In September, we would like to be in Honduras holding evangelistic campaigns each week in a different village but we need your help. We need your monthly commitment. My father always said "you can't out give God". He will repay you for your sacrifice.

You can help us in two different ways.

You can either go to http://www.samaritanrevival.com and on the right hand side of the page, you will see three options on how to support our ministry. We have $5, $10, $20 a month. Just click the subscribe button on either one and follow the directions. Each month, the amount you choose, will be deposited into our account.

The second way is to send a check with the amount you would like to support each month with a note saying that you are going to support the Samaritan Revival Group.

The Address is:

Good Samaritan Baptist Mission
Samaritan Revival
P.O. Box 430
Villa Rica, Ga 30180

No amount is to small and you will be contributing to the growth of our mission.

Please pray about this and let us know.

May God Bless You,

Philip Tyson

Praise you in the Storm is becoming more real everyday

About a month ago, we recorded the song Praise you in the Storm by Casting Crowns in Spanish. This was one song that I really prayed about because I knew that it was a great responsibility for us to try to bring the same message and spirit as strong as the english version.

I was so nervous when we recorded it in Nashville that I decided to leave the studio while the recording was going on. When I returned, the recording session for this song was over. About two weeks later, the devil really tried to attack our ministry. We were being hit on all sides and it was discouraging. The guys had left for Honduras and I stayed back in the U.S. to get ready for the second part of the tour. I have to admit that I was feeling down especially when I found out that a friend of mine in Honduras had filed a law suit against us for severance pay. If he would not of been a friend then it probably would not of been so bad but he was and that made it worst.

Sadness is really a strange feeling because it does not have an end. You can keep following into even stronger sadness. I guess some people would call that depression but that is another feeling. The problem is that when you are getting hit from all sides then how can you be happy. Many people will tell you to just keep your eyes on God and you will be happy but that is not always true. As christians, we will be attacked and one of our more weak areas is our feelings and emotions.

Anyway, I got the mastered copy of our new CD and the first song on the CD was Praise you in the Storm - Spanish Version. WOW, that is about all I can say. Mark Hall from Casting Crowns is so anointed and even the spanish version sung by Samaritan Revival is great. I have heard the song now about 40 times and I am feeling so much better. Eliu, who sings the song in spanish, really put his heart into the song and I know that it will be a blessing to all that hear it.

Here is the song with the english words on the video.

I Know you're there from Casting Crowns Spanish Version by Samaritan Revival

I know you're there - Lyrics - Written by Casting Crowns sung by Samaritan Revival

If all I had was one last breath
I'd spend it just to sing Your praise
Just to say Your name
If all I had was one last prayer
I'd pray it 'cause I know You're always listening
If I could live a thousand lives, bind the hands of time
I would spend every moment by Your side

'cause I, I know You're there, I know You see me
You're the air I breathe
You are the ground beneath me
I know You're there, I know You hear me
I can find You anywhere

If all I had was one more song to sing
I would raise my voice to make the heavens ring
If all I had was one last chance, I'd take it
I would stake it all on You

If I could raise up high and catch a glimpse of every eye
I would make them believe
What I feel inside

If I could live a thousand lives and bind the hands of time
If I could rise up high and catch a glimpse of every eye

I know You're there
I know You're there
I know You're there, You're there

Meeting Mark Hall from Casting Crowns

How many times have we heard "Trust the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart?" One of my desires for a good while has been to meet Mark Hall from Casting Crowns. We have translated and recorded some of the songs that Mark Hall has written and sung with Casting Crowns. These songs have been such a blessing to my life and I have always wanted to meet him.

Last Night, I received a phone call from a wonderful friend who said "Can you meet Mark Hall tomorrow for lunch?" I could not hardly speak. I almost thought that it was a joke but it was true. I could not hardly sleep last night and I kept thinking over and over in my head what I was going to say to him when I met him.

This morning, I woke up and I called Stephany and Philip jr and told them that it was time to go. We met at a restaurant close to Atlanta but we got there about 10 minutes early. I was really nervous and Stephany was making fun of me. She would say "there he is" and it would be someone else. At exactly the time he said he would be there, he walked in. I walked up to him and shook his hand and we started to talk. I had the opportunity to talk to him about our ministry and about our group.

After a few minutes, I realized how down to earth he was. So many people can receive a little bit of glory and they get very prideful but here was Mark Hall, the lead singer for the most popular christian music group in the history of the U.S. and he was humble and down to earth. He asked questions, I asked questions and we even laughed together. Every minute I was with him, the more relaxed I became.

I don't know if we will ever meet again but I hope so but even if we don't, I was taught an important lesson today. No matter how much fame and glory you may receive on this earth, it all belongs to God. There is a huge difference between ministering and just singing and we have always tried to minister in everything we do but here is a man that has won about every award he can ever win and has had all the glory he could ever stand but he is not effected. Why? Because his heart is in the ministry. He does not just sing but he is also a youth pastor and he loves young people.

I hope to meet him again and I hope to call him not just a friend but a close friend but nevertheless, it feels my heart with hope to know that there are still wonderful, faithful men who have a burden to help win the lost for Christ.

May God Bless You,
Philip

Take a chance and say YES

Do you remember the most important decision you had to make in your life and you thought about it and you said NO. Do you regret that decision today or do you think you made the right decision. Do you look back and think about what life would be like for you today if you would of said YES?

One negative part of life is that most of our important decisions comes at a young age. Usually when we get out of High School is when life's decisions start. What college should I attend? What should I major in? Should I marry this person? Do I love him or her enough? Should I take this job or is there a better one waiting on me down the road? Should I take a year off from college and travel the world before I get tied down?

So many questions to answer without knowing when to say YES.

If I had time to write my life story, you would find out that I said yes to many things in life. I have traveled the world, met thousands of people, experienced life in a wonderful way and I one day said YES to my soul mate. I have started all kind of businesses, some ended soon and others lasted for a good while, but I said YES to the opportunities that was offered to me.

Did I make mistakes? The answer is YES. I have regretted some of my decisions? The answer is YES. Would I do them again? I don't know the answer to that because as they say hind sight is 20/20 but I learned and I experienced and I grew into what I am today. I have had my heart broken but I have also experienced true love and destiny.

People who say no to everything end up living a life of regret. Once they reach that age where there physical body says it is time to rest, they look back and wish they would of said YES more times in their life.

I remember once going to the airport with my wife. I was 28 and she was 21. We had no tickets, no reservations, only a bit of cash money and our credit cards. We had no idea where we were going, we just knew we wanted to go somewhere. I asked the guy behind the ticket counter, "If you could get on a plane right now, where would you go?" He said that his dream was to go to Rome and to spend a week at a small little bed and breakfast in front of the Trevi Fountain in the center of the old part of the city of Rome. We bought two tickets and got on the plane. That was the best week I have ever spent with my wife. We spent hours reading old books to each other and watching the people throw coins into the fountain from our balcony.

Some of you would probably say "That is so irresponsible." Maybe so but I am almost 40 and I have that memory that will last for a lifetime. Sitting in the moonlight with my arm around my wife on that balcony watching the moon, listening to the sounds of the pouring water from the fountain and listening to two old men, one playing and accordion and the other a violin, playing romantic songs is something I will cherish forever.

I will never forget sitting at an old roman cafe and an old lady out of the blue came up to me and said in broken english "the way you both look at each other has told me that it was destiny for you both to be together". I am not writing about love, I am writing about seeing life and experiencing it with your eyes wide open. Opening your heart and your mind and realizing that there are so many opportunities to experience feelings that will never be forgotten. All because I said YES.

Many christians live a dead life. They believe that the world is only what surrounds them. God has created so much beauty for us to experience. When is the last time you have seen a beautiful flower and you knelt down to receive the wonderful smell of that flower that God created? When is the last time you took your wife by the hand and you walked down a part through a wooded forrest listening to sounds of the birds, racoons, and other animals that God created. If you listen hard enough, you can almost hear the trees singing as the wind blows through them. God's creation has so much to offer but we have to say YES I want to experience it.

It is different for everyone but it is never to late. If you can walk, you can do it. There are so many things you can do that does no cost anything, just a little effort. You just have to say YES.

A way to change the life of a hungry child

I want to tell you a story about something that happened in the life of my mother. Back in 1983, she was teaching a sunday school class in southern Honduras. There was about 200 kids under a tree and it was very hot. Mom and Dad was called to be missionaries back in 1969 and they had planted many churches but they had never seen in all their years so much suffering and hunger. People were actually dying each day in Honduras of hunger.

Mom taught the kids how much Jesus loves them and that Jesus wanted them to be saved so they could live in a mansion in heaven. Mom had to explain to the children what a mansion was because they had no idea. They all lived in dirt huts and walked on mud floors. Many did not even have a bed to sleep on. After the Sunday School class, the pastor of the church gave my mom and dad a can of sardines and a hot pepsi to drink. They were really proud to be able to offer this meal to them. As they were trying to eat this, a little girl was standing about 20 feet from my mother eating a green grapefruit. She kept her eyes on my mother the whole time while she peeled that green grapefruit.

The Holy Spirit started talking to my mothers heart. Mom thought "I wonder if the little girl is thinking, why does the missionary get to eat sardines and a pepsi and I only have a green grapefruit. Why does the missionary have shoes to wear and I am barefoot. Why does the missionary have a stool to sit on and I have no where to sit." Probably none of these thoughts ever entered her mind but mom could not get that little girls look out of her mind.

The next week, mom went back to teach the Sunday School class and that little girl and two others had died of starvation. She was torn into pieces and she told my father that she could not do this anymore. How could she teach about the love of Jesus to starving children. Mom and Dad did not have any money and they did not know what to do. Mom decided to write a simple one page letter to some of their supporters in the states asking them to help feed these hungry children.

Just a couple of months later, people started sending in donations to help feed the hungry. Mom never imagined that 25 years later, we would be providing 120,000 plates of food every single day in 40 feeding centers in Honduras and Nicaragua.

One day, dad was supervising the feeding centers and it was school time and none of these children were in school. He told mom, "these kids are going to grow up poor and their kids are going to be poor, we have to do something about this". They decided to start a christian school but never did they imagine that 25 years later, we would have 6 Christian Schools with over 3,500 children receiving a christian education. Can you imagine how many graduations we have had in 25 years? Many of these children that was once poor are now Pastors and Evangelist. Many work in banks, stores, government jobs and one student who was extremely poor is now the secretary for the First Lady in Honduras. These children are taught that everything they receive is because Jesus loves them.

Aaron, Eliu and Harold from Samaritan Revival were also children at one time who ate in our feeding centers. They had no clothes to wear but one day a family in the U.S decided to sponsor them and look how the Lord has used them to touch many lives. That family who picked their picture off of a table we had placed during a church service many years ago never imagined the impact they were going to have in the lives of these three men.

So far, Samaritan Revival has found sponsors for over 350 children who are hungry and have no education. These children are now eating every day and they are now in school. They now know that Jesus loves them so much that He touched someone's heart in the U.S to sponsor them.

This is something that we offer in every concert we do and you can offer it also. One dollar a day will change a child's like. Sponsors can write to their child either by mail or email as much as they want and they can even visit their child on one of our 20 mission trips each year.

If you have a gospel group, pray about offering this opportunity to people during your concerts. The program is called "Opportunity of a Lifetime". Why? It not only gives the child an opportunity to survive and have a chance to grow up to be somebody but it also gives an opportunity to a family in the U.S to make a difference in a child's life. We are very small compared to World Vision and others but we do what we say we do and that is why the Lord has blessed this program.

If you would like to help us find sponsors for many children who need help, please call our office at 770-459-4058 between Monday thru Friday and ask for Rebecca or my mother Joan Tyson. We will send you pictures and bios of children that need to be sponsored. They will explain how the program works.

This is a great way that your group can make an impact and minister as you sing in your venues. The Bible says, he that hath pity on the poor lendeth to the Lord and God will Repay. Do you want to make a loan to the Lord? You may not see rewards here on earth, but you will see them in Heaven.

I am a Christian and I want people to know it

I believe that today is the time that we should identify ourself to everyone who we come in contact with about who we are and what we believe. When you see someone on the street or in a public place and they are wearing a t-shirt, for some reason, we always try to read what is on the t-shirt. At least I do anyway. I have designed a t-shirt that will get peoples attention. I was laying in bed just thinking like I usually do and I thought, what if 100,000 people would wear a t-shirt letting everyone around them know what they believe. This may be a high goal but if we all get in behind this project then we can make a difference. No one is ashamed of wearing an Obama shirt or a sports team shirt so let everyone know that you are a Christian.

The Price is $20.00 and we have small, medium, large, X-large and XX-large. The funds raised from this will also help the Good Samaritan Mission.

To Purchase the shirt, just go to www.samaritanrevival.com and on the front page, you will see the shirt and the buy now button. Choose your size and click buy now. You can also change the quantity once you click the Buy Now Button.

Can you imagine 100,000 people wearing this shirt in airports, restaurants, grocery stores and malls. I can and I hope you can also.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO YOUR FRIENDS AND ASK THEM TO FORWARD IT TO THEIRS

May God Bless You,

We have started our tour

On March 1, Samaritan Revival started their tour. We were really nervous and I guess the main reason is that I have worked for almost 6 months putting this tour together and finally March 1 was here. Last time we were on tour, we were a new group that no one had heard about but now people were expecting us to live up to all the hype. I do not like the word HYPE but people do expect you to live up to the expectations.

We arrived at Peachtree Rd Baptist Church in Suwanee, Ga on that Sunday Morning and everything went great. The people seemed to enjoy the music and we thank God for that. When the concert was over, we found ourself in an incredible snow storm. It was snowing so hard that we could hardly see. We had another concert that night in Douglasville, Ga and we were afraid that it was going to be canceled but people showed up and it was a great night.

We have around 60 to 70 churches to visit on this tour and I am pretty nervous. The economy is getting worst and I feel sorry for so many people that I meet who have lost their jobs. I have also been fighting an awful cold and I guess this is just enabling me to feel a little weak.

Please keep us in your prayers. The Lord is blessing and we need to be strong. I pray that the voices of all of our group members will stay strong.

May God Bless You,
Philip

Getting past a crisis

I hate to admit it but I do watch the news every once in a while but it is getting depressing. The word CRISIS comes up about every minute. I have started being sarcastic and I will just murmur to myself, Here we go again. In one of the speeches this week from President Obama, he used the word crisis 25 times. It al most makes you not want to event leave your home.

This blog is not about politics, but it is about the Crisis. The definition in the dictionary of Crisis is "an unstable situation of extreme danger or difficulty". That word is very strong and to think that it is being used today in our country is so overwhelming. Can you imagine being in a situation of extreme danger, not just regular danger but extreme danger. The max of all dangers.

How many of you have ever heard someone say "I am going through a crisis in my life". When someone says this to you, it is your responsibility to take it seriously especially if that person really knows what crisis really means. They are basically saying that their life is in extreme danger. You probably never thought of it that way because I did not until I started studying the definition of crisis.

We live in a fast-paced world. And with little room for error within the frantic pace of our lives, experiencing a significant personal crisis can quickly become an overwhelming event. In an effort to keep pace, individuals will attempt to bury their problems, so that even while they are achieving great things in their day-to-day lives, it may be coming at a heavy cost.

A personal crisis can popup at any moment when you are not prepared for it. It is often due to a combination of circumstances and a personal conflict. The first step to manage a personal crisis is to acknowledge it. This is a crisis. This first step is important to get over it too. As long as you don't acknowledge it, it may linger on for ever, you feel depressed but you don't understand why.

Personal crisis requires healing. Here are several steps you must take to heal.

Be determined.

Decide right now that you will get through this. Your life may not be the same as it was before. Some of the changes you are going through may indeed be permanent ones. But be determined that you will emerge from these circumstances stronger than ever before. Decide today that you will be a survivor.

Take it one day at a time.

You don't have to have your entire future worked out right now. Just focus on getting through this day. If it helps, break your days into smaller pieces, and focus on getting through just this morning or the next hour.

Stay active.

Keep yourself busy with the normal routines of your life. Also, consider being physically active by taking a brisk walk once a day or incorporating some other form of exercise. This can make a huge difference in the way you emotionally and physically deal with stress. Regular exercise also provides a wonderful built-in time for thinking and reflecting. You may find that after a long walk, you feel more clear-headed and prepared for making important decisions.

Take care of yourself.

It is extremely important that you continue to take care of yourself. This means getting 7-9 hours of sleep each night and eating a balanced diet at this time. You may also need to teach your body to relax again. Do this by taking some time each day to sit for 5-10 minutes and simply breathe. Repeating this technique each day will become easier, and you will notice a real difference in your state of mind and the amount of tension you hold in your body.

Manage what you can.

If you're feeling extremely overwhelmed, focus on one task you can complete that would make you feel more empowered and in control. This could be as simple as doing the dishes or getting a work-related project out of the way. If everything feels out of control, try setting up a calendar system to keep track of your schedule and the kids' events. Seeing the life ahead visually on paper in front of you can help you feel more in control of what's happening.

Learn to recognize your personal strengths.

You already possess much of the personal strength you'll need to get through this. What would help you into tap into that core strength? Make a list the strengths you observe about yourself. Be honest. They're really there! If you have trouble with this exercise, ask a friend who knows you well to articulate your strengths for you. Sometimes others see in us amazing qualities that we have yet to recognize.

Turn to God

The lord has all the answers but we must look for them. You have to read your bible. You have to search God's word for the ultimate solution. You have to pray and not some repeated prayer. You have to talk to God and tell him what you are going through. This is the most important part of overcoming a crisis.

No More Sweet Tea Please

This story is totally true and it happened January of 2008.

On January 6th of 2008, Aaron and Eliu from Samaritan Revival arrived in the states for the first time. Harold had already visited several states in the past. One of things that we do not have in Honduras is buffets and I know how these guys love to eat so I thought that I would introduce them to the Golden Corral.

We arrived in Douglasville, Ga about 8:00pm and we went directly to the Golden Corral. When we walked in, Aaron wanted to know if we were at a wedding reception or some type of party. I said no Aaron, we are at a restaurant. Once we paid, we got our plates and I told them to go get their food. Aaron and Eliu just looked at me and said "How do we know what we are allowed to eat?" I told them that they could eat anything they wanted. This blew them away. About 15 minutes later, they both came to the table with three plates each that looked liked Mt. Rushmore. I told them that they did not have to get all the food at one time, they could go back as many times as they wanted. They just smiled and started eating.

When they finished eating, Aaron had almost turned blue. You could tell that he was stuffed. The waitress came around and filled everyones tea and we set and talked for a while. Every few minutes, the waitress would come back around and give everyone tea refills. Aaron had a sick feeling on his face and he turned to me and said "Philip, please tell the waitress not to refill my tea anymore, my stomach is about to bust. I am going to be sick. I have drunk 7 glasses of tea and every time I finish my glass, here she comes again. I can't take it anymore." I told Aaron that if he did not want anymore tea, he did not have to drink it. He looked at me with a strange look and said "I know that we can eat what we want but we cannot waste food. Just ask her not to refill my tea anymore, please."

Aaron, Eliu and Harold came from a country where there is no refills. They came from a family that was poor and if food was placed on their plate, they ate every bite. They never had to learn not to waste because they never had enough to waste. Aaron was not going to waste a glass of tea.

How much do we waste each day when there are so many people hungry throughout the world. How many singings have we been to with so much food that no one can eat it all. That day, I was taught an important lesson. I was taught a moral lesson. Just because we have it does not mean that we can abuse it. I love to eat and once you meet me you will see that I am not lying but I have learned not to waste food. When I throw a plate half full with food into the trash, I think about Aaron and his sweet tea.

Always and I mean always thank God for what He has given you. What we have today, we may not have tomorrow.

Dealing with the death of my father

Every time I sit down to write, I look at the clock and it is usually after midnight. During the day, I am so busy making phone calls, writing emails and taking care normal business but at night after everything calms down a bit, I feel the urge to write. I guess you can call it "Counseling" for myself.

I had a friend once who was dealing with several emotional issues in his life and a counselor gave him a little book to write in every time he had feelings that made him feel uncomfortable. He told me later how this was really helping him. He said that every time he wrote into this little book, he felt like he was expressing his feelings to someone who was not going to judge him. I guess this tells me that we all need someone to talk to. Someone that will listen. I don't know how many people read what I write but if it is not helping someone, at least it is helping me.

The Bible says in psalms 55:22 to "Cast Thy Burden to the Lord". I have a burden and I want to talk to about it. I know that these feelings that I encounter are shared by millions of people around the world.

I can explain totally how I feel with one sentence. I MISS MY FATHER. I want to see him so bad and I would to be able to talk to him and just put my arms around him. Does everyone feel this way when they lose a parent or do they just go on with their life without thinking twice? I have seen women who have lost a husband after being married for 40 or 50 years and six months later they are married once again. Is this strength or is it a weakness? My father died on May 20, 2007 and I especially at night, I feel a tremendous sadness enter my heart. A need to see him once again. A need to be told what to do because I know that my father always wanted the best for me. He taught me to be a man but am I less of a man because I miss him so much. So many questions and not enough answers.

I look back at the mistakes I made and I wish that I could go back and change many stupid things that I did that I am sure made my father suffer. I wonder how many nights he prayed for me when I was not in the Lord's will. I wonder what he thinks about me now. There is a song that Mercyme sings called "When I finally make it home". This songs talks about many of these same feelings. Here are the words.

I'm gonna wrap my arms around my daddy's neck
and tell him that I've missed him and tell him
all about the man that i became
and hope that it pleased him
there's so much i want to say
there's so much i want you to know.

The best advice I can give is a verse that I read in the Bible. Read and meditate over this passage and then pray.

Psalms 62 - 7-9
6He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.
7In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
8Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.

Here is the video of the song When I finally Make it Home. I hope this is a comfort to your life.

What do we really sing and Why?

You know, I was uploading some songs and as I was listening, the strangest thought came to my mind. What kind of music do we really sing? There is Gospel, Southern Gospel, Praise, Worship etc. but I don't think that spanish southern gospel is listed anywhere on the internet.

What in the world is spanish southern gospel? I have not quiet figured that out yet but here is what I do know.

We love to sing music that stirs our heart. We love to sing music that will touch the people who are listening. We love to sing music that carries a message of repentance and salvation. We love music that will bring tears to someone's eyes and make them weep with joy. And finally, we love to sing music that brings us closer to our savior Jesus Christ.

You know what is so wonderful? This may come to a surprise to many people but God is bi-lingual or let me say multi-lingual. He understands all languages and no matter what color your skin is or what country you were born in, Jesus loves you just the same.

Aaron, Eliu and Harold were born in Nicaragua during communism. Their mother had to hide them in the mountains when they were only 14 because the communist army was recruiting everyone over 13 into the army to fight in the civil war. They were Christians and they had no other choice but to flee. She marched over the mountains for days with no food or water until she reached Honduras. My parents were missionaries and they took these boys and put them in school. Never in our imagination did we think that God had given them a great talent to sing but God already knew their future.

The Bible says "Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

When I put the group together, I asked the guys and my daughter what type of music do you want to sing. Their response was "Whatever brings more people to a saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."

So I guess the answer to the question of what type of music we sing is "WE SING THE GOSPEL"

Something to think about

Something to think about from Samaritan Revival

As we prepare for our new album, I have been searching for a special song for
Stephany. I wanted something that would send a special message out to people who were discouraged and maybe they were in a season of doubt in their life. I found the song "I know you are there". This song really touched me because it tells me that God loves us and He is not going to forsake His children.

Here are the words

If all I had was one last breath

I'd spend it just to sing Your praise

Just to say Your name

If all I had was one last prayer

I'd pray it 'cause I know You're always listening

If I could live a thousand lives, bind the hands of time

I would spend every moment by Your side

'cause I, I know You're there, I know You see me

You're the air I breathe

You are the ground beneath me

I know You're there, I know You hear me

I can find You anywhere

If all I had was one more song to sing

I would raise my voice to make the heavens ring

If all I had was one last chance, I'd take it

I would stake it all on You

If I could raise up high and catch a glimpse of every eye

I would make them believe

What I feel inside

If I could live a thousand lives and bind the hands of time

If I could rise up high and catch a glimpse of every eye

I know You're there

I know You're there

I know You're there, You're there

We probably all know that God says He’s always with us and He’s always listening to
us. We know that’s true because of verses like: “I am with you always” (Matthew28:20); “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5); But at the same time, all of us have probably had times with God when all of those verses felt like nice—but empty—thoughts. So what do we do when the truth doesn’t feel true?
God gives us both emotions and knowledge of the truth of His Word. When we don’t feel like God is there, we need to rely on what we know to be true: that He really is. When our feelings contradict God’s truth, they always need to be overridden by what we know. We have to make a conscious choice to believe what’s true instead of relying on our feelings.

It’s tough to wrestle that out. It’s easier to trust your feelings, stop talking with God, and walk away. But when you grapple with it, you’re saying to God: “I’m going to stick with You no matter how I feel because we’re in a committed relationship.” That’s living out true, real love. It’s commitment based on gut-level dedication, and God will honor that.

So how do we override our feelings with the truth? We’ll shoot straight here: Sometimes it’s just a flat-out choice. There’s no magic formula or any process to walk through. It’s just mentally deciding, “God, I know You’re here. I don’t feel like You’re here, but You say You are, and I choose to believe that’s true, and I’m going to act on it and spend time with You.” Your feelings that day may never swing in line with the truth. Sometimes you just have to move forward. You have to hang on to the truth, remind yourself of it, and find the backup you need to support it. The backup is in the Bible. When you’re feeling like God’s not there, the Psalms are a great place to visit

There will be times when you feel like God isn’t near. It’s part of living in a fallen world. But when you spend time with God without feeling His presence, your actions will prove that your commitment to God is rooted in something much more solid than emotions. It’s rooted in love.

How do you really feel?

I have a question for all of you. How do you really feel?

In todays society, it is so easy to put on our happy face. We meet so many people, we shake many hands and we give many hugs. We see many smiles but as my father said once, "there are many layers to an onion". I was a kid when he said this to me and I had not idea what he was talking about but now I do.

Our outside layer can be shiny, attractive, and beautiful but what is really going on inside our head, inside our heart. Our we really what we try to appear on the outside or once our layers are pealed, how do we really feel on the inside. Who are we really?

The more people I meet, the more I come to realize that we all suffer from pain, depression, sadness and many times in our life we lose hope. I know that we love to be around happy people but sometimes this can really cause us harm. We as humans try to compare ourselves to others and when we cannot live up to the standards of others, we feel like we have failed. Thank God that He looks at our heart and not at our top layer. God has the power to look under every layer of our life and see who we really our and how we really feel.

Let me tell you who I like to be around. I love to hang around people who do not try to be someone there not. I love people to open up and share their feelings. I love people who will express their faults and allow me to express mine without judgment. I love to hear someone say "I am just a sinner saved by grace". That is all we are, a low down sinner with no hope that God had so much love for us that He have his only son to die on the cross to give the hope of salvation.

There is so much that I could talk about in this blog but let me just say this. If you cannot open yourself to someone, you can always open yourself to Jesus. He will never be to busy to listen. Express to him how you really feel. Peel those layers back and tell him where you are hurting. I know that God already knows but He wants to hear it from you. He wants you to come to Him for help. He wants you to need Him.

One other bit of advice that I can give is this. If you are ever in church or let just say at some christian event and you see someone singing or preaching, don't let you mind trick you into convincing yourself that you want to be like that person. What you need to do is to ask the Lord to help live what that person is preaching or singing because if you could peel the layers back of the person you are admiring, who knows what you would find.

Don't get me wrong, there are some great people in this world. I love Charles Stanley. His messages touches me in a great and mighty way but I know that Charles Stanley does not want me to want to be like him. He wants me to take the messages that God gives him and apply them to my life. I love to hear Bart Miller from Mercyme and Mark Hall from Casting Crowns. I know that these guys are touching millions of people with their music but do I want to be like them or should I apply what they do for the Lord to my life. I know that you know the answer to that question.

Be yourself and let God use you. Walking around with two Bibles in your hand and huge cross around your neck is not going to make you more useful to God. Casting Crowns has a song called Lifesong. The words of the song say "Let my lifesong sing to you". In other words, let your life be a testimony to others. Not who you are but how you live.

Just saying.

A short Story about how Samaritan Revival started

About a year ago, I was in Honduras where I work for the Good Samaritan Baptist Mission as a missionary and I decided that I wanted to put together a little group to sing for the students in one of our Christian Schools. We have about 4,000 kids in six different schools in Honduras and Nicaragua but in this one town, we have about 1200.

I figured that we could have a Tuesday Night devotional and we would try to get some of the parents to come and hopefully, they would ask Jesus to enter their hearts and they would saved. My daughter was blessed with a beautiful angelic voice so I figured that with two of three more singers, we would put together a singing group to lead the tuesday night services.

I really didn't now what type of music we should sing. The normal spanish christian music just did not feel right because most of it is just repeating the same couple of words 17 thousands times. I wanted our songs to send a messages. My mother came up to me one day and said "You need to sing Midnight Cry". We decided to translate it into spanish to see if we could touch peoples hearts with this type of music. When I say "this type of music", I mean a type of music that these people had never heard before.

Tuesday night came around and my daughter plus three young men stood up to sing. It just happened that we had a mission group from the U.S visiting us that night and when the song was over, you could of heard a pin drop. There was no clapping or shouting, just a calm, silent feeling all over the auditorium.

I went up to the pulpit and spoke for about 10 minutes and gave an invitation. Over 30 people came forward a received Christ as their savior. Some of the americans that was there started crying and they said that they had never felt such a spirit even though everything was in spanish. As the group sung Midnight Cry in spanish, they could hear the english words in their mind.

To make a long story short, we were invited to sing in a church in the Alabama. We did not even have a name for our group. Some would call us the Good Samaritan group, the samaritan singers, Honduras singing group, the samaritan and many more. We really did not care what they called us, we were just happy to be able to sing and minister to a church in the U.S.

This was in March of 2008. Today, we have recorded two albums in Nashville and we have a distribution deal with New Day Christian Distribution. We have traveled to over 60 cities in the U.S and in March we start a 50 city tour. Here is the incredible part of all this, we sing in only english speaking churches. We have sung in a couple of spanish churches but 99 percent of the churches we sing in do not know a word of spanish. We sing in spanish and we put the english words on a screen. Many times, people will come to the altar while we are singing.

Here is what I want all you to understand by this story. God has a purpose and a plan for all of our lives. I have no idea where this is taking us but we have decided to go through every door that God opens. Who would of ever thought that so many english speaking churches would open their doors to a spanish southern gospel group.

Every step that we have taken, we have learned many lessons and we have tried not to sing songs for ourselves but songs that we know will minister to the congregation. Sometimes, we will sing only SGM if that is what the church wants and loves. Other times, we will mix a little bit of Casting Crowns or a song like I can only Imagine if we feel like this is what touches the people more.

We have learned that we are always guest in a church and our main purpose should be to minister to the hurting ones that our listening to us sing.

Keep us in your prayers. Our only desire is to minister and as long as God opens up the doors, we Samaritan Revival will never give up the opportunity to spread the Word of God as long as he gives us strength.

Working Harder in Harder Times

As many of you know, times are getting hard for many people. I know that the economy is bad and many have lost their jobs. I just wonder some times though how much of it is REAL. In other words, is it as bad as the media says it is. If you have heard the news for the last six months, our economy was supposed to totally bust before the year ended but it did not. I am not saying that things are not going to get worst, I just believe that in these times, we better work even harder than ever and we are all going to have to learn how to save money.

As a Christian Music Group, the economy scare effects us in a large way. I was talking to a high executive with a Christian Record Label and he was telling me how hard it was for many smaller singing groups and how they were struggling. Many groups charge a fee to come sing in a church or some type of Christian venue. Churches today are not able to pay for a group to come sing. If you are in a group, the invitations to sing will be very unlikely, especially if you charge a certain amount.

In one way, this is a good thing. I guess this will make us think really what our purpose for having a music ministry is. We do not have that problem because we have never charged to come minister at a church. We are a love offering basis group. This means that we will come and you can give us a love offering if you can and there is no set amount. This can be dangerous if you have to travel 1,000 miles and then you may get $200 dollars which may not cover the gasoline but if your purpose is to minister then you have to place your needs in the hands of the Lord.

The truth is, we have to work harder. We have to make the phone calls, send out the letters and emails, and search the internet for opportunities. So far, God has blessed us with over 40 concerts starting in March and many on a waiting list. Why? I have no idea. I really don't. I just make the call and pray that we will be invited or our request will have a positive answer.

What we need to think about in these hard times is "Conctacts". When a christian group visits a church, they make friends and contacts that can last for years to come. We have learned that people who we met during our concerts ended up joining our mailing list and later on they helped us financially.

Think about something. Is your ministry about the money? Ours is not and never will be. Maybe this is why so many churches are asking us to come. We want to minister to people and we want to be a tool of the Holy Spirit to deal with the lives of people.

Sometimes I wonder how many groups are being effected. I know that the small groups are but what about the large groups like Mercyme and Casting Crowns. What about the Gaither Vocal Band and Michael W. Smith. I truly pray that they are not being effected because their ministry is touching so many lives.

I can tell you this. Samaritan Revival will not ever charge for a concert. We will accept love offerings and we pray that people will donate to our ministry but we will never never charge a fee to minister. I am not saying that no group should charge. Many of the large groups carry enormous expenses when they put on a concert but we keep things as simple as possible so we will not have that problem.

What I can tell you if you have a Gospel Group is, Work Harder than ever. Do not let the economy keep you from following your dream. Do not let the economy keep you from fulfilling your calling. Just keep your eyes on Jesus and He will provide for you.
